9/10, I loved this book, and all of its surprising twists and humorous remarks, but it was lacking in leaving me astonished.
This book is the sixth in the Grishaverse series, following Shadow and Bone as well as Six of Crows. It is told by the king of Ravka, Nikolai, who is trying to rid himself of his literal demon. His general, and potential love interest, Zoya, who has demons of her own, and will do anything to stop their collective demons. And Nikolai's spy, Nina, who is featured in Six of Crows, and is now shown battling the horrors of her past to create a better future for her and all Grisha.
This book has a good mix of fantasy and romance, although the romance as well as the humor is quite subtle. After getting absolutely devastatingly attached to all of these characters from Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, I was ecstatic to get to read more about their stories. Specifically, Nikolai, who was my favorite character in Shadow and Bone, and who King of Scars allows a deeper look into, and more moments to enjoy his sarcastic, egotistical banter.
This was a 9/10 star read for me, the last star lost simply because it did not have a wow factor. I loved this book, and all of its surprising twists and humorous remarks, but it was lacking in leaving me astonished.
